The 2017 edition of the Ford Fusion Hybrid has a number of improvements throughout - from the engine technology to the cabin technology - that collectively add up to a big gain for this environmentally friendly midsize sedan, says Antuan Goodwin, auto writer for CNET's Roadshow.
Under the hood, the Fusion Hybrid still has a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine, which makes 144 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with an 88 kW electric motor and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Collectively, this sends 188 total horsepower to the front wheels. The electric motor has been adjusted, however, and can now kick into full electric driving mode at speeds of up to 85 mph. The regenerative braking system has also been revised for even greater efficiency, and now allows the car to recapture up to 94 percent of energy when coming to a stop.
